One Thursday in Nicaragua, I met a couple prayer walking and they quickly stole my heart. My team visited their home for weeks and heard more and more about their life. The things they are walking through inspired me and the more excited I got to see them each week, the more excited they got to see us. The Lord put my group and I in their path intentionally. We spread encouragement, support, and loved on them and it truly opened my eyes in a new way. It opened the door to allow them to encourage and love on us as well.
The first time we went to the house the woman told us she had some health complications including hypothyroid disease. I also happen to have said thyroid disease, which was by no means a coincidence. It was beautiful to encourage her and share in some of the struggles that her family and others around her could not understand. At this time, her husband also had kidney problems. Kidney problems are very common in Nicaragua due to the unsafety and uncertainty of the water, instead people would only drink sugary drinks. I had the opportunity to pray over both of them and their 3 kids and tears were flowing from all parties. A couple weeks later we learned he went to the hospital to get tests done on his kidney and they came back completely clean! He did another one to make sure it wasn’t just a mistake and it came back once again completely clean! The Lord healed him of his kidney problem! This was a huge testimony to both us and his family to be a witness to the Lord’s healing power!
We learned soon during our first visit that they were not married but wished to be. It just so happened that one of the translators at the Farm has a program that helps couples get married. Most Nicaraguan’s think if they already have kids together and have been together for 10 years it doesn’t really matter if they’re officially married or not. Plot twist: it does!
As time went on the woman blessed us by making my team a Nicaraguan dessert (It was amazing)! The Lord blessed us with the means to help plan and fund their wedding. We also got to take her shopping for her wedding dress and shoes – by far a memory I will never forget! Unfortunately, we were not there to celebrate the wedding, but their story is a testament of how good and faithful the Lord is!
